Brighton And Hove Community Sponsorship Group

BHCS LOGO.png

In 2021, Resettlement collaborated with a group of volunteers from Brighton and Hove to help welcome an Afghan family into their community via the Community Sponsorship Scheme. We were able to support the group throughout the process of their application, providing them with resources such as digital/marketing/design assets, financial assistance, and data collection. In the Autumn of 2022, we were able to welcome the family into their home, that the volunteers had even customised to make it child-friendly and welcoming.

Legal Support

The legal process to resettle in the UK is complex and, for many asylum seekers, has proved one of the more difficult obstacles to overcome to begin life in the UK. We have been able to facilitate consultations with immigration specialists to help support individual cases pursue their Leave to Remain status.

Ukraine Crisis

Soon after Resettlement launched, Russia invaded Ukraine displacing at least 12 million people. We were able to support Ukrainian refugees in Moldova via Refugee Support EU’s Dignity Centres. Since, we have helped provide food for over a thousand displaced people in Moldova and Cyprus.

Refugee Support EU continue to carry out vital emergency response work in refugee camps across Europe. For information on their work and how you can help, please visit their website.

Equal Access Activists Weekend Away

As part of the debut of our recreational activities programme,

Resettlement was able to organise the first meet-up for the Equal Access team where they were able to enjoy a day out at the Birmingham Conservation Park along with a lovely meal in the evening at a beautiful Syrian restaurant.

The following day, we were able to provide a facility where the group could sit together in a more quiet environment, reflect on the year so far and provide each other support.

Equal access is a group consisting of refugees and asylum seekers who campaign for having equal access to higher education. You can read more about the Equal Access campaign here.

The Voices Network trip to Cambersands

We are honoured to have been able to send the Red Cross's "Voice Network" on an amazing trip to Cambersands. David, one of the refugee's in attendance had this to say.

"
This journey wasn't just about sun and sand; it was about camaraderie, laughter, and forging deeper connections among us... This trip to Camber Sands Beach served as a testament to the power of shared experiences. We proved that even in an age of virtual connections, there's nothing quite like the magic of being present, together, and truly alive" - If you would like to read Davids full account of the day, click here.

Our Match Funding Scheme

Our match scheme provided funding to groups forming Community Sponsorships, who were willing to welcome Afghan refugees residing in hotel accommodation at the time, into their community.
