Emergency Respite
We provide limited short-term accommodation for people who cannot access housing through their local council.
Resettlement offers short-term emergency respite for individuals in urgent need of a safe place to stay, particularly over weekends or when council offices are closed. Our emergency respite service provides temporary accommodation for a few days at a time, giving people a secure and supportive environment while more suitable housing arrangements are made. This service ensures that no one is left without shelter during critical moments, helping bridge the gap until longer-term solutions are in place.
At the moment, our service is limited to the county of Berkshire. While priority will begiven to those in need of the service locally, we will consider applicants outside of this catchment area for any of the following reasons:

01
Their physical safety is in serious jeopardy
exceptional examples include but are not limited to:
-
they live within an area that is hostile to sanctuary seekers and there are ongoing protests.
-
their mental health has deteriorated to the degree that there is physical self-harm.
-
they have recently experienced street violence.
-
they are vulnerable to sexual exploitation.
02
Their duty of care is under an LA outside of Berkshire, but they have spent a substantial amount of time within the county and have subsequently formed a community within it.
03
They are age disputed, and recognised organisations within the sector have reason to believe they are under the age of 18.
04
There is dispute over the Local Authority with which their case resides which is impacted their ability to access accommodation that they would otherwise receive.
Applications
This application is to be completed by third parties on behalf of refugees or asylum seekers based in Berkshire. The purpose of the accommodation should be for short-term respite and emergency shelter.
Please complete the referral form which can be found here.
Eligibility
-
Applicants should be eligible for Universal Credit (housing element).
-
Must be willing to live in shared accommodation.
-
Must be able to work and/or study.
-
Applicants should not be considered “vulnerable” by the council (our service is designed for those ready to take steps toward independence rather than high-support needs).
We particularly aim to support the refugee population who are often passed over by the council and found ineligible for housing support. Our project is designed to give these individuals a fair chance to build their lives, access opportunities, and move towards independence.

All applications are reviewed promptly, and our team works closely with referrers to ensure the best outcome for the applicant.
